Lisbon – a four night trip

Monday 17 – Friday 21 October 2022.

STOP PRESS (12/9/22) One place has become available on this trip. Booking form should be sent to Millennium Tours as soon as possible.

Lisbon has a special charm, a hilly coastal town with pastel coloured buildings and a mildly Moorish feel, it is rich in culture and gastronomically interesting. It is one of the world’s oldest cities and the oldest city in Western Europe, influential from Roman times onwards as an important maritime and commercial centre. It is best known as the starting point for Vasco da Gama’s voyages of discovery in the 15th century. Trade brought wealth and patronage which is well testified in the splendid architectural ensembles of the city; palaces, municipal squares, cathedrals castles and rich museum collections. The tour includes all the best there is to see.

On arrival in Lisbon at Lisbon airport, we will be met by our guide who will accompany us to our centrally located, five star hotel, The Avenida Palace Hotel. During the following days we will visit the medieval areas of Lisbon known as Belem and Alfama as well as Baxia, which has a neo-classical flavour. All of these areas represent different stages of the city’s evolution from ancient to more modern times and are full of cultural monuments; churches, monasteries and museums as well as wonderful views. Beyond the city we will travel by coach to Sintra, the former summer retreat of the Portuguese Royal family, where we visit the spectacular Palacio de Pena, an eclectic medley of architectural styles, and the Queluz Palace, a delightful rococo style hunting lodge. We also visit Ajuda National Palace, a typical 19th century Royal residence with sumptuous decorative arts and a museum of tiles. On the last morning we visit the Calouste Gulbenkian Museu, with works ranging from Antiquity to the early 20th century.

We stay at the 5* Hotel Avenida Palace*, in a good central location. The visit will be led by a  local expert guide using an audio system.
