Marrakech – one of Morocco’s four Imperial cities founded in 1062 by the Almoravides, nomadic   Berbers – a vibrant and atmospheric city, offering a mix of old and new.  Amongst the places we visit are:   the Djemaa el Fna Square,  the great square  in the heart of the Medina; the 12th century Koutubia Mosque, one of Morocco’s largest;  the Majorelle Gardens, created by Jacques and Louis Majorell in the 19th century, now owned by The Yves Saint Laurent, and housing the Pierre Berge Museum of Berber Arts;  the El Bahia Palace,  a fine example of Andalusian 19th century domestic architecture with its harems, council chamber with painted ceiling and tiled walls, all grouped around a large central courtyard with fountains and colonnades; the Dar Si Said Museum, one of Morocco’s best museums.   We also drive out of Marrakech to the Atlas mountains and its Berber villages.
